Drills

June 3, 2011 in News by Ben

Improve your tennis, get fit (or fitter) for summer

As we indicated in our May newsletter, we’re pleased to be able to report that we have arranged some regular tennis drills for members plus any non-members you may wish to bring along. Details of our Friday sessions and a possible Saturday session are set out below.

Friday drills

Coach, Mike Gordon will be running drills every Friday from 10th June to 8th July. If demand is there, we may extend beyond this date. Drills willcommence at 08:30 and there will be a charge of £5.00 for members and £6.00 for non-members, payable on the day. No booking required – just turn up, cash in hand.

Saturday drills

Coach, Greg Santoro-Fergusson is available to run a separate drills session on Saturday mornings. We are proposing to charge the same rate as for the Friday session, and as before non-members would also be welcome. However we have not yet had any expressions of interest in this from members and if we are to book Greg then we will need some indication of numbers. If you would be interested therefore, please click here – you will not be committed to attending, but this will enable us to gauge whether there is sufficient interest.

This is just to let you know that Douai Abbey Tennis Club 100 Club has been up and running for six months already and, with over 60 tickets held, is going very well indeed.

Draws have been held at 10am on the first Saturday of the month on the tennis courts – usually by some unsuspecting couple playing tennis at the time. Probability has shown its true random nature, with more than one prize being won by the same person; if you haven’t won yet the chances are that either you will win shortly or that you need to buy more tickets in order to improve your luck!

For more tickets please, as ever, contact me, Wendy Williams, on northstoke@btinternet.com and I will be happy to take your money.

Junior Tennis Tournament

September 6, 2010 in News by Ben

Douai Park Tennis Club will be hosting a Junior Tennis Tournament in association with Bucklebury Tennis Club. Details as follows:

Date: Sunday 26th September

Time: 3pm – 6.30pm (Please arrive at 2.45pm)

Age: Secondary school age. (If there are younger siblings who would like to take part, let Emma know (contact details below) and she will try and arrange something for them).

Format: Round Robin leagues with play-offs to find an overall champion. Girls and boys will play together. Current thinking is to make each match ‘first to 15′. (If you win 15 – 0, you get 30 points. If you win 15 – 14, you get 16 points and your opponent gets 14 etc.) But this may change.

Cost. £2 per head. Balls will be provided.

Parents: …are needed. Please come and support plus helpers would be much appreciated on court to help with the scoring.

How to enter. Please contact Emma Spriggs by email ejn@asalimited.com or telephone on 0118 9714502 or 07730 309356. Pay on the day.

Closing date: Wednesday 22nd September.

Good Luck Ben

June 30, 2010 in News by margaret

Good Luck to Ben Ely who is taking over as Chairman and will be running the club from now on – Ben you will be great at it – I have really loved the past three years in the job and look forward now to taking a back seat and concentrating on fundraising.
On Wimbledon – this is definitely the year – I think Murray could go all the way – he’s making it look so easy!
